1) 5D Installation
I have .NET framework installed on my machine, but the installer still asks me to install .NET framework
5D uses .NET framework 1.1. Please make sure you have the correct framework installed. The installer for .NET framework 1.1 is also available from www.tech21.co.uk/5d.html
5D was working fine on my machine but all of a sudden it is now asking me to obtain a license
This happens when the configuration has changed on the machine. It is important to make sure that the configuration of the PC remains the same when the license is first generated and while using 5D. Configuration change can occur when:
- USB devices connected - like mouse, memory stick, Wireless Adapters
- Network to which the PC is connected to - example: If your PC is connected to the Weatherford network first and then to a different network the hardware configuration might change
- Any other devices that you connect or disconnect to your PC
To resolve the problem, restart the machine with the configuration you want to use 5D and send the Get5DLicense file to 5dlicense@tech21.co.uk
When I first start-up 5D and enter the registration details, the Get5DLicense file is not created in the 5DLicense folder
Please make sure the 5DLicense folder is not read-only to 5D (right-click on the 5DLicense folder, select properties make sure the read-only box is un-checked, press Ok). If the problem still persists, it could be down to the security settings on your machine, please contact your system administrator
What takes so much time when I request a license?
When a license is requested 5D automatically navigates to the directory containing the 'Get5DLicense' file in Windows Explorer. This process is slow if you are running Internet Explorer Version 7.

2) 5D Graphics
Moving through the view of the field is sometimes slow. Can this be made quicker?
Movement through the field can be slow for large data sets if the well path thickness is switched on. Switching the well path thickness off should give smoother viewing and will lead to no real change in appearance when the well paths are viewed from a distance.
Bounding box appears with diagonal lines between vertices
This behaviour occurs on some machines and not others. Please send details of your PC's graphics configuration to support@tech21.co.uk
On opening the Field Operations form, the screen is grey apart from the menu bar. How can this screen be properly restored?
If the form appears as described, an error has occurred in saving the position of the data table and plotting panel on this form relative to the other panels on this screen. This can be resolved by navigating to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Tech21\5D.ini. Open this Notepad file, press Ctrl + F and type qtFieldOptsForm in the Find dialogue box which appears. Having found this text, scroll down until lines of text are found which start with the text 'splitterHoriz' and 'splitterVert'. Delete these lines of text and save the 5D.ini file. Close and then re-open the Field Operations form; the form should now have the correct lay-out.

3) 5D Usage
Different projected co-ordinate systems have the same / similar names. How do I know which is the correct one for my purposes?
Right-clicking on the projected co-ordinate system in the list of systems then clicking on 'View...' will invoke a 'Projected Coordinate System Viewer' dialogue box giving details of the system including Geodetic system and projection of the selected system.
The semi-major and semi-minor values of my error ellipsoid seem exceptionally large. Why so?
Check the magnetic model parameters of field strength, dip and declination. Field strength should be of the order of n*10^5 nT; dip and dec should be a few degrees. If the uncertainty values still appear odd after sensible values of the magnetic parameters have been entered or obtained via 5D's built in magnetic model, contact support@tech21.co.uk
After using the field operations form I have elected not to overwrite my working plan with changes made during the field operations. The well I was working on is the same as it was before the use of the form, but the side-track coming off of it has moved to a different point on the well path. Why has it moved?
This is due to 5D's internal use of the undo mechanism for this operation. To allow for all possibilities with the generic undo for side-tracks, the side-track does not re-attach to the parent at its original depth. As the parent is back to its original state, the side-track should be able to be manually re-attached at its original depth.
